It feels a little ironic to be posting about my cu

It feels a little ironic to be posting about my current frustration with social media…on social media, but here goes. Is anyone else feeling it? The constant algorithm chasing, the exhausting trends, the “comment X to get X”… and don’t get me started on the societal demand of normal-folks-turned-accidental-influencers to have and voice an opinion on EVERY 👏 SINGLE 👏 THING. 👏Then there’s the AI-written captions. I have used them in the past. But I’m tired of even seeing my own posts written that way. And lately I feel like I can’t even talk or write like a normal person. You know it when you see it. It looks like this.It’s meant to spark emotion.And keep you reading.(It sucks.) 🤢And I’m over it. 🤮Over the weekend, I ran into several people who knew me from this account, but I did not know them. It felt…icky? Slightly flattering (because why else are we on this platform?) I don’t know. But I really wanted to just know their names. And to give them a hug and ask about their kids.And how is everyone offering coaching and digital products these days? I know online courses are great. I created Pattern Workshop in 2014, and it’s still going strong. But this new stuff is a whole new level of slop. When did we stop being artists, creators, hobbyists, friends, dabblers? When did it start being all about getting someone on your mailing list or to download a free guide (which inevitably is selling coaching or a digital product…inevitably about coaching or selling digital products?) I’m all for teaching and even monetizing it when appropriate, but this is…not that. I’m rambling a bit, but I suppose that’s what happens when you write your own caption from the heart instead of a prompt. What do y’all think? Are you feeling it, too? Where do we go from here? Has promoting our businesses on IG become a high-school popularity contest? (And yes, my instinct was to run this through ChatGPT before posting, but I refrained.) 🫶🏻
